We will be staying four nights in Venice in October ....we would like to rent an apartment with two beds. Any suggestions?

You will not find an apartment ON the square. You can search any of the rental sites for an apartment in the San Marco district, or in the areas of the Castello or Dorsoduro districts that are close to San Marco. Suggest you look at a map of the districts of Venice.
