Apartment in Florence

I am going to Italy with my husband and teen son and am looking for a safe and clean alternate to hotels in order to help keep our travel costs affordable. Does anyone have any experience with alternative accommodations in or around Florence? We are not renting a car.

Hello! We are a family of four traveling to Florence and Rome in May. I rented an apartment through Italy Perfect. So far so good - they seem to be very helpful and informative. The contact person is located in San Francisco so phone calls and emails are always answered promptly.

Have been to Italy three times, one time in Florence. Rented an apartment through vrbo.com. Very reasonable. I like the flexibility of renting an apartment. Not having to eat every meal in a restaurant, being able to spread out and relax is definitely a plus.

We rented an apartment for four of us from vrbo.com for a week and it was fabulous. It was on a pedestrian street half a block from the Baptistry, on the top floor with a tiny lift, and had a deck with a knock-em-dead view of the Brunelleschi dome of the Duomo. The landlady, a doctor's wife, lives on the floor below and left us all sorts of advice about where to buy things and some good restaurants.

Mimi, Don't know if you are interested in a B&B, but Dei Mori is our favorite. The rooms are very nice, and the owners could not be more hospitable. It is a Rick Steves recommendation, and we return every time we are in Florence. It is just two blocks to the Duomo, close to the Uffizi, and Piazza Signoria. A fabulous location. Read the reviews of Dei Mori, Florence, on Trip Advisor for more information. Thanks to Rick Steves for a great recommendation.

We visited for 3 nights last April and stayed at the Ponte Vecchio apartment from Sanseb Suites. it was absolutely fantastic. Best location IMO - look out over the Ponte Vecchio, but still very quiet and extremely close to everything. We walked everywhere. Suite 2 at www.sansebsuites.com I found them on VRBO.com originally but this is their website.

We spent a week last summer at a wonderful apartment two blocks from the duomo; check the pictures to believe it. The price is really reasonable; you can get premade food for dinner at the Mercato Centrale.
http://www.residenzarondinelli.it/eng/apartment2+2.php We used VRBO to find apartments for a week each in Verona, Venice, Florence, and Rome, plus two weeks in Germany. They are great.

My last visit to Florence we stayed at a convent in a great location - Casa Santo Nome di Gesu. Check out their prices; unless something has changed, their prices were very reasonable, and the room sizes were varied (meaning, number of guests per room; some of the rooms were VERY large - probably the ones w/o bath). We had a bath down the hall; I never, ever saw anyone else around! It's located on the same square as the Brancacci Chapel! Easy to reach by bus from the train station, too. It has been in Rick's books for years, but don't know if it's still there. Read the reviews on TripAdvisor...
