Can anyone recommend an apartment (for 2 couples), or rental agency, in either of these towns? I stayed in Riomaggiore in 2010, but the rental agency that we used only rents there. Would like to stay in a different town. Thanks.

If you are a bit adventurous, I'd actually recommend NOT booking a hotel. A wonderful experience we had in Cinque Terre was staying in a local residence in the main town center of Vernazza. The locals there rely on the travelers for their income and have rooms in their homes to rent. Just walk into the main town area down the hill from the train station, look for signs in the doorways saying "room for rent". Push the buzzer and wait! We were immediately wisked away by a competing neighbor and ended up staying in the loveliest room a few stories up with a private entrance and a large window overlooking the ocean for only 90 euros. It was totally private, not like we were IN their home at all. The space was arranged for a traveler. If there are 2 couples, you may need to stay in 2 separate rooms, but I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue. Are you brave?
