We spent three nights in Firenze in the Piazza Passera area at Appartamento Passera. PRO Location is amazing. Right across the river in a small artisan neighborhood yet close to walk to all major sites. Excellent cafe, gelateria and restaurant in piazza. Apartment is spacious and was roomy for four single travelers. The location is noisy at night from the piazza but it did not bother us as we loved the location. CON The internet service is very spotty and slow. As in all of Florence, we now know there is a problem with mosquitoes so we all were covered in bites since we left the windows open as it was hot. This will be a problem wherever you stay so take precautions.

Piazza della Passera. A little info about the origin of the name. Passera is used in Florentine dialect to indicate the female reproductive organ (the English equivalent also start with the letter "P") The piazza was knownby that name due to the presence of several bordelli (whorehouses) in the area. The name of the Piazza was named Piazza dei Sapiti in the early 1900s until recently. But in 2005 the City of Florence decided to name it again with the old "nick name". The change back to the old popular nae did cause some controversy of course. But that is not the only place with names suggested by the presence of whorehouses in the past.
