Aosta Valley

I am thinking about a day trip from Turin to the Aosta Valley (looks amazing), It appears the best option is a bus that runs non-stop from Turin to Aosta; however, it appears the cost goes up significantly during the summer months, even if I book ahead. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions for visiting the area. Thanks

I don’t know where you’re searching for tickets. I just checked Flixbus and they seem to have reasonable prices for late June. One of my Piedmont highlights was taking the Skyway Monte Bianco to the top of the Alps. You can get a Flixbus to Cormayeur to ride the Skyway and a public bus back to Aosta from which you could take Flixbus back to Torino. The Skyway ain’t cheap! But it’s possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

If you want a restaurant recommendation in Torino, try Pastificio Defilippis, Via Lagrange, 39. Great food at reasonable prices.

Aosta Valley is fantastic. I spent 4 days there on a recent trip. We had a car, which was very helpful. Without it, your options are more limited. You could consider renting a car in Turin. We rented from the main station and it was fairly straightforward to get out of town avoiding the ZTL.

If you are coming on a bus for a day trip, I would recommend spending the day in Aosta City. There is plenty to see there. I assume you aren’t planning the visit primarily as a hiking trip, which would necessitate a different kind of planning. While the Skyway is amazing (I recommend doing the crossing into France if you can), I wouldn’t do it as a day trip from Turin. The views are better in the morning and it is somewhat weather dependent. It would be a real shame to plan that and then get stuck with bad weather.

The tourist website for the valley has lots of great information that really enriched our trip.
