We are planning to travel from Anzio, outside Rome to the island of Ponza, Italy in July for 5 nights. I have been researching ferry crossings, & it seems the only company that has service is Lanziomar, with ticket purchase only offered the day of travel. Is anyone familiar with that ferry route that traveled by hydrofoil with a different company? Can anyone who has been to Ponza share some tips about staying on the island? I've read some reviews that the hotel personnel are not always the friendliest to American tourists.
I haven’t been to Ponza yet, but we’re going in mid June. I bought ferry tickets from Formia instead of Anzio through Laziomar and I was able to buy them ahead of time on the website. It would make me nervous to buy same day tickets just in case they are sold out. Have a wonderful time!
I think Vetor Aliscafi runs hydrofoils on that route.
Thank you both for your reply. I may reconsider staying in Anzio one night, and going through Formia instead.
When I researched it, it seemed like there were more ferry crossings from Formia than Anzio, so more flexibility with different times being offered. We are staying in Orvieto the night before we travel to Ponza, not Rome, so I'm not sure about the travel distance/time from Rome to Anzio vs Formia. But for us (from Orvieto) it is almost the same amount of time to take the train to Formia as it is to take the train to Anzio, even though Formia is farther south.
