Family of 5 - parents, three sons (13,12,10)in Rome this August. Anyone stayed at Rick's Pick Albergo Santa Chiara? Right behind Pantheon? We looked at his pick Imperial Palace too, and it's great it's so close to the Metro, but we like to walk and are looking for a place were there are outdoor eateries and trattorias we can walk to in the evening. IP didn't seem to have that while ASC looks more "in the heart of things". Also - Tripadvisor reviews, while favorable to ASC, mention a "renovated" part of the hotel as more desirable. I appreciate anyone's input. Thanks!!
Hi Marie,
We stayed there for three nights last September. Our room was very nice, I don't know about renovated or not. The area is where you want to be in Rome. You can and should walk to most of the sites. When venturing farther out you also have great access to the busses(electro or regular).
We had great weather at the tail end of September and Rome at night is magic. I hope August will not be to brutal on you. Have fun.
YES it is wonderful....and thanks to rick it is now almost impossible to get a room :) Book early, it's a great hotel and a wonderful location, no wonder it fills up fast!
Marie, with a family of 5, have you looked at staying in an apt? You can find a great place to hang out, and have the abilty to have Bfast, or other meals in. Many have washers and dryers, and other comforts of home, and the price is much more economical that a hotel.
When we were in Rome we rented our apt from VRBO.com. We have used them, and Homelidays.com for many places in the EU. Cross-pollinate.com is another good source of apts in Rome.
You have to do some smart shopping; checking out the location, tranportation connections, etc. You will want one that has been in the rental pool for a while, and preferably one that has plenty of good customer referals.
We were able to find an apt for less than $100US/day that was about a mile from the Termini station. It was on two Express bus routes, that whipped us into town. It overlooked a park and river, and had lots of neat local restaurants, shops, and grocery stores.
It was a quiet refuge from our daily foreays into the busy city.
