Anyone landing in Venice the morning of 8-21-19? Looking to share a water taxi next week!

My wife and I are heading in to Venice and arriving at 9:00 am 8-21 and would love to share a water taxi with other folks looking for the fastest way to get there! We have an AirBnB booking that requires us to get to Fondemente Nove and I am having a hard time finding a vaporetto line that gets us there at that time of day. The last time we came in, we had to wait for the Alilaguna ferry for about an hour and a half and I'd rather not wait that long if possible.

Ciao!

hey hey live2ride
have you reserved the shared water taxi yet? check venicelink.com, they have shared at 25E minimum 2 people. read the information (you may to wait up to 45 minutes) to fill. don't know if they leave with two but you may meet someone around the airport area, F.te Nove (A or B) is a stop for you, don't know where your airbnb is, how close to stop, how far to push luggage over cobblestones, can you checkin early or drop bags off to hold. since 9am is arrival, add time to go through passport/customs, maybe someone in that line to share. my own opinion is this is one of the best and fastest way with taking the bus to train station then changing again to alilaguna. it's up to you what's more important, fastest , and cheapest (doesn't all go together sometimes). the BEST is to get a private taxi for 115E, eat deli sandwiches, cichetti and house wine, one less expensive meal, taking saving outta piggy bank, grin and bear it. no stress, start vacation with a smile, enjoy the magic of venice,
we have used the water taxi 3 times but we had 4 friends to divide cost. we booked with motoscafivenezia.it europeforvisitors.com has lots of info

I was surfing around the forum and did find reference to venicelink after I posted my question (of course). I will do that if I don't get any takers.

Since you sound quite knowledgeable, we leave via the Venezia lines ferry - is there somewhere near there that we could lock up our luggage between checkout of our BnB and the ferry departure?

Thanks!

There is a left luggage facility at Piazle Roma, also just to the right as you face the Venezia SL station, “Keep Calm”.

hey live2ride
don't know anything about venezia ferry. where are you planning to go with the ferry and why wouldn't you take luggage with you? are you coming back to venice? there are lockers at venezia santa
lucia train station, check the website for cost and how long you can store luggage.
we stay in venice for how ever long 4 to 7 days. read up about what you want to do and have planned.

Note that the Venezia Lines catamarans depart from the San Basilio terminal (not the cruise terminal) which is a fair distance from the train station and Piazzale Roma. I don't recall seeing any luggage storage there, and it's probably best to use a vaporetto to that stop (complicated walk).

Have you asked your B&B for directions from either the airport or from Piazzale Roma if you take the inexpensive bus from VCE? Vaporetti 4 & 5 leave from the dock in front of the RR station quite often and it’s about a 20-25 minute ride to Fondamente Nove.

  1. We have to check out by 10am, and our ferry doesn't leave until 5pm. I was figuring we would stow the luggage for a few hours while we wandered about on that side of the city prior to our ferry departure.

  2. I'm glad someone mentioned the departure dock! I have my documentation and that's exactly what it said, but I kept seeing indications on google maps showing travel between Rovinj and Venice taking off from the other dock near Piazalle Roma. I might not have given it another thought - so thank you for making me check further!!

  3. I checked with ACTV and the 4.2 Vaparetto definitely goes to our stop at Fondemente Nove, but the schedule shows it only runs very early in the morning and does not run regularly throughout the day. If anyone has info contradicting that I would love to see it.

Thanks all for your suggestions!

I believe you're misreading the 4.2 vaporetto schedule and that it runs much more frequently than you're thinking (i.e. 3 times per hour), and I believe the 5.2 vaporetto runs a similar route from the train station to Fondamente Nove.

It's best to use the Venezia Lines website to confirm docking terminals. The information is under the Destinations dropdown menu.

Thanks for that Frank - I still haven't found anything that shows a more regular schedule on the 4.2 vaparetto and that would definitely be more convenient. I think we may just take the bus in, check the 4.2 schedule and compare that to the alilaguna schedule. One way or another, we'll get over there.

Consider downloading the app Chebateo (which boat). The app links to vaporetto timetables. Plug in departure and arrival vap stops, and the app will give you boats and times.

I downloaded that app - and while I love it - it does confirm what I saw before - the 4.2 and 5.2 boats don't run all day! The next scheduled departure for our arrival date is 8:30 PM!!

I think perhaps you aren't adjusting for the time in Venice when you look at the online timetable or at the Chebateo app.

I just put in Wednesday the 21st, at 10:00 am. The 4.2 from Ferrovia goes every 20 minutes at xx:05, xx:25, xx:45; the 5.2 is every 20 minutes offset to alternate with the 4.2, at xx:15, xx:35, xx:55. All day. Pier "D" at Ferrovia where it starts to F.Nove "B" for the 4.2, same starting point for the 5.2 but it takes you to F.Nove "D". They both take 23 or 24 minutes.

What exact time did you change the Chebateo clock to when you were searching? Where did you put in to start the ride, and was it F.Nove for the destination?

Well that's good news! I hadn't seen anything yet on time adjustment. I just used Piazalle Roma as a starting point, and yes on F. Nove.. I just figured that might get me close. Thanks for the tip on the other origination point! I should be good to go at this point with that information!

Since they both start at Ferrovia (the train station, across the Grand Canal from P Roma) they won't show up at P Roma because they start on the other side of the Grand Canal. Hop a number 1 one stop and change at Ferrovia.

Take the Alilaguna boat from the airport. It’s like a vaporetto but run by a different company and is much less expensive than a water taxi. It will stop at Fondamente Nove.
