Anyone know when the March Trenitalia ticket sales open?

Does anyone know when the March Trenitalia ticket sales open? I'm looking to book tickets mid to late March and I can currently book Feb 28th but choosing March 1st throws an error when I "Continue".

I know the timing is generally two months ahead but if there is a known date it would saving me checking every couple of days.

Grazie,

March is already loaded-which specific date are you looking at?
I just picked a random date last week March and can see and purchase all the trains

It is not “2 months” in advance
By Dec 11 of 12? The next 6 months should be complete

I'm trying to buy Ravenna to Roma Termini.
When I select 28 February hours 06:00 28 Feb and hit continue I get the "Log in" screen.
When I select the same train March 1st and hit continue I get a red "An error occurred banner" that pops up across the screen. This has been consistent over the last week.

Since I get the exact same behavior in the phone app: "An error occurred. Try again later." I assumed it meant they were just not actually on sale yet even though they were scheduled. I also see the very cheapest fares which I figured only existed because no one could buy them. This is from the west coast if the US.

If you can get the purchasing page from the continue button I'm not sure why I can't in either the website or the app...

Tod,
you are right. Regional train tickets are usually only available about 60 days in advance. Your first portion from Ravenna is a regional train.
But don't worry. These tickets can't sell out. You don't have to check them daily.

You can already book the second portion (=highspeed) if you want.

This is not correct.
Regional tickets are available at least as far as June 1- that's the last date I just checked.
True- no need to book in advance but the tickets and schedule are already loaded that far out.

Tod- I am using the app and just checked March 1- Ravenna to Roma Terrmini- there are lots of options offered all for purchase. Most are regional to Bologna then fast train to Rome.

@ChristineH and when you hit "Continue" or "Proceed" (in the app) does it take you to ticketing information or throw an error?
For me it only throws an error if it is a mixed ticket. I just tried fast trains only on the website and it took me to ticketing.

Fast train only tickets appear to be working so I'll go ahead and book what it will let at this point. I'll just make a note of what regionale trains I'll need to buy there to match up with my booked tickets.

Thanks all,

No idea where Christine is located (and if she is really using Trenitalia, and not Trainline f.ex.)
But here in Belgium I have the same issue. No booking possible from 1 March on.
But I can book the Frecciarossa separately.

@ Windyram Thanks, fast train only tickets appear to be working so I'll go ahead and book what it will let at this point.

I hadn't thought about all my big legs being mixed local and fast tickets - except making sure I have enough time to delve into the depths of Bologna station - so I never was checking fast trains only. Discount tickets here I come! ;)

Thanks all,

I am on east coast USA (Gettysburg PA) and using the official Trenitalia app
I don’t use third party resellers

I've booked all my fast train tickets for my stay and will just book the regionale legs as needed. It was a bit of a pain to search the whole trip and then just buy the corresponding fast trains, but the trouble was worth the discounts for buying early. I've noted the times of the matching local trains for when I need them.

Warning: If you haven't booked recently be ready for the euro to dollar conversion shock. Ug.

Thanks everyone, happy travels,

Enjoy your stay, Tod.

BTW, I always book my regional legs in Italy separate (or should I say buy them the day I travel).

Not only for the reason of being able to enjoy the cheapest tickets, but also because the combinations regional-highspeed often give me a too stressful short connection time, especially with luggage and/or navigating in stations for the first time.

Interesting, I usually book the whole trip because I'm looking for the shortest/fastest route and don't want to get stuck at the transfer station during a long break in the trains. But I have to admit the phone app has been a real game changer in terms of being able to plan and buy on the fly.

The absolute best was before they implemented the black out around the departure time. If you could physically get on the train you could buy a ticket for it as/after you got on. Now even if you get to the station and the train is 10 minutes late and you can physically get on it you can't buy a ticket via the app.

And outside Rome, Naples and especially Bologna changes aren't usually all that bad. I always try and warn people about Bologna because it is so different. I have a change in Bologna and I'm currently planning on spending an extra twenty minutes and doing regionale to regionale instead of regionale to fast trains to avoid the pressure of the transfer down 3 levels there.

But as someone who remembers the giant phone book like trains schedules before websites even it is so much easier and more straightforward now even with the strikes, delays and other factors.

Happy train travels,

Now even if you get to the station and the train is 10 minutes late and you can physically get on it you can't buy a ticket via the app.

For 'regionale' trains, you buy a train ticket a bit in advance. Activation of the ticket will be automatically. However, before the scheduled departure of this train, you can postpone this activation in the app to a later time.
