We are traveling with another couple this October. We’d love to visit Catania, but need lodging with a lift or on main floor. Does anyone know of such a place? Thanks.
Airbnb is full of such places, I use them every trip. They don’t bite, really.
Search on Booking.com. There are search filters where you can specify your needed characteristics, including 'entire unit on ground floor'. You can also read reviews of folks who have stayed and rated the apartments.
Becky,
Would you consider a B&B versus a private apartment? If so, I can recommend B&B San Placido Inn. Three of us (all seniors) stayed here in March in two separate rooms, each with its own bathroom, both with showers, not tubs. The rooms were large. Mine was a double with a queen size bed and had a small private terrace overlooking the harbor. My cousin and her husband were in another big room, across the hall, in a triple with both a queen bed and twin bed. The B&B is in an old palazzo on the fifth floor with an elevator. I think the elevator was added later in the atrium area. It has an enormous outdoor terrace with great views of Etna and the surrounding downtown area that guests are welcome to use. Breakfast was included and prepared daily by the very friendly woman who attends to the place. Rates were very reasonable. It is not a fancy place and has sort of an eclectic naval and antique decor, very comfortable. Lots of Catania's buildings look somewhat rundown on the exterior but the interior is ok. Best of all was the location, about one block behind the Duomo of Sant'Agata. on Piazza San Placido. I would definitely stay here again. It met our requirements of few steps and/or a lift, breakfast, showers not tubs, price and location.
Thank you.We do prefer apartments. I’ve tried Airbnb. With they had a filter for lift in thier accessibility features! I’ve learned you have to review What This Place Offers for each listing individually.
I stayed in a beautiful 2 bedroom apt in Catania but it only has one bathroom and there are stairs at least 10-15 but with a rail and they are wide and sturdy ....let me know if you want the link anyway
Cheers,
Demi
