Anyone in Venice April 23?

We're going to be in Venice April 23 while on the RS 21 Day Best of Europe tour. We have booked two tours with Alessandro Schezzini: the bar tour (often referred to as the cicchetti tour) and the "offbeat tour" which travels off the beaten path. These tours are recommended in Rick's books, and some people have posted on the Forum about them, as well.

The offbeat tour begins at 4:30; the bar tour at 6:00. So far, my husband and I are the only people who have signed up, and Alessandro has a 6 - 8 person minimum. When I suggested to him that I troll for participants on this Forum, he said "Absolutely; do it and let's see."

So whether you're on the BoE tour or not, are you interested in either or both of Alessandro's tours? (He also does a third tour, to Burano, but we're not interested in that one this year.)

If you are, here's a link to his website: http://www.schezzini.it/ Or you can email him at [email protected].

I'm also posting this in the RS Tours section of the Forum, as well, to get the attention of any of our fellow travelers.

You have plenty of time for other bar crawlers to sign up! We went to his crawl in October and he was funny, charming and kept us entertained for 2 hours. The food was good, but you'll need to eat afterwards (fried olives/calamari rings/ small amount of breads) were great appetizers, but we needed food, especially after all the wine! We were the only ones signed us (4 of us) until the day before, then when we met him, the group had grown to 14 people. Lots of fun!

Time is drawing near, so I'm bumping this up. I'm planning to email Alessandro later today to see if anyone else has signed up for his tours April 23.

Okay, I just heard from Alessandro, and he says DH and I are the only people signed up for that date. He has enough folks the following day to make a tour, but since we're on a RS tour we won't be available then. He told me to check back in a couple of weeks. I'm hopeful that if other people don't sign up, we can twist the arms of some of our Best of Europe tour mates. Chances are there are a couple of other folks in the group who enjoy wine and a good time...

Hey Jane,

My wife and I will be arriving to Venice on April 23rd. We are interested and I will email Alessandro. How much is the tour? and do you know how many drinks and food in included in the price? Online it says it is 35 euro. Reviews look really good.

Jason, someone who posted to one of my original threads said we would probably still want dinner after the tour; someone else disagreed and said the combined cicchetti made enough for a light dinner. And evidently the wine flows freely! I'm planning on asking Alessandro for a restaurant recommendation as the tour winds down.

I can't get the website to come up right now, but the €35 sounds about right. It seems he told me last fall that the price might go up this year, though. I'm sure when you sign up he'll let you know. We do not have to pay ahead of time.

I'm looking forward to meeting you. How long will you be in Venice? This tours sounds like a good way to start your stay, if you're not too jet-lagged.

Woo-hoo! Just heard from Alessandro, and both tours are on! Thanks, Jason - and anyone else who signed up.

Hi, Jane, Good friend and I enjoyed Alessandro's cicchetti tour in late Dec. 2017. The cicchetti served on the tour were enough (along with the free-flowing wine) to be our dinner that evening. Depends on how much dinner you want.... if you eat a good lunch, likely the food served on this tour will be sufficient (it's mostly fried seafood, and crostini, with a few other tidbits...)

Hey Jane,

I received confirmation from Alessandro. Thanks for posting this as I would not have booked otherwise. We will be in Venice for only 2 nights then heading to Cinque Terre. I should not be jet lagged as we will be a few days into our trip. Looking forward to the tour.
