Anyone in Positano Now? Or just left?

I happened to look on Booking.com this weekend, and there was not a single vacancy (hotel, apartment, etc.) available in Positano for the week of July 8 - 15th. Fortunately, I made my booking for that week about a year ago. BUT, it made me wonder if it's gong to be historically crowded there and if so, what may I need to book ASAP instead of waiting until I get there? For instance, group boat tours, sun lounges/umbrellas, restaurants, etc... I may just be panicking! What about the SITA buses; are they still viable for getting around, and if not, are taxis available. I welcome any/all tips from people who are there now or have just been. Also, we have an apartment, so will probably do a lot of our own cooking while in Positano (since I'm not getting the impression that restaurants are that great or too expensive there,) where are the best places to buy groceries/fish/produce? We are very close to the beach, above some shops (on Via Trara Genoino,)

Not in Positano, but though I would mention there is a lady who lives in Positano who posts videos on YouTube. Won’t post the link in case we are not allowed to, but her name is Nicki Positano. Her videos are terrific, showing different shops and grocery stores, cooking, daily life etc.

I've been watching Nicki's videos for the last year! I love her and her family. I'm hoping to spot her while in Positano; but my daughter has threatened me NOT to stalk her! She said 'that's not cool, mom!'

I also watch Nicki’s videos and she has said recently that Positano is much more crowded than usual for this time. Restaurants booked or with long lines, and her friend, Elizabeth, with the boat company, just remarked on yesterday’s video that boat tours are fully booked, just don’t know how far in advance. So would be worth researching what you want to do and booking ahead.

We were there about a week ago. Very busy- but probably nicer in morning and night. I recommend day tripping and enjoying the nights/mornings in town. Ravello is a great place to spend a day if you like chill vibes, cool breezes, beautiful gardens and good (but expensive) food. A boat trip would also be fun. And you should reserve ahead for the lido.

We were there in later September of last year, it was more crowded than what I enjoy, traffic was crazy. Mid July? It could only be more crowded. If you plan on eating at a specific restaurant, yes book ahead. Most would do a few days ahead, some place with a reputation, ask about it now. There are plenty of places though you can eat early and get a spot on the fly. For beach chairs, depends on the place, but you might try first thing in the morning or ask the day ahead, doubt many place take reservations for a month from now.

My son and girlfriend were there last week. They were staying in Salerno. They did the Path of Gods hike and ended in Positano. After 45 minutes they left. They said it was ridiculously crowded. Couldn't walk anywhere without people bumping into you.
They had planed to go to Capri two days later. Scratched that idea and took the high speed train to Rome for the day. Arrived in Rome at 9:30 am and left at 8pm. Walked all around and ate, and ate and ate. My son had been to Rome before but not his girlfriend. They were happy with their decision. They are in their early 30's/

This is the exact same experience my wife and I had in Positano (albeit in June, 3 years ago). We did the Path of the Gods Hike (in the correct direction, downhill towards Positano from Bomerano (anyone we saw coming the other direction was miserable)) and then got to Positano and found it to be an undesirably crowded mess. Although very pretty and seems like it could be fun if it were emptier.

When we were ultimately leaving Amalfi we came across other travellers who also disliked their Positano experience and strongly advised us against going to Capri for similar reasons.

Thanks all. We have spent a week in Positano, in July, but it was 10 years ago. I do suspect the crowds will be worse this year though. We will be placing some calls in the next day or so to find out what we can reserve ahead, that needs to be reserved ahead. I will go out very early to spend time on the beach before it gets crazy crowded , then hibernate in our apartment during the hottest/ busiest part of the day, and then venture out in the late afternoon/early evening again. We plan to cook nice meals for ourselves and then eat outside on our terrace overlooking, but separate from, all the chaos below. It should make for some nice people watching! We are really going to just to relax and soak up the beauty that is Positano. After Positano, we are spending four nights in Ravello, then four nights on Ischia. We don't usually mind the crowds, hopefully, these crowds don't make me eat those words!

I have been reading and viewing YouTube travel videos and understand Positano is getting impossible because of the crowds. A few videos were recommending other towns just as beautiful. Does anyone have opinions on skipping Positano and substituting another town? I don't necessarily want to regret not going, but I'm not hard over on going if an alternative town is just as picturesque--just want to do a village on Amalfi coast. I've read Praiano on another discussion. Thoughts?
