Anyone flown Ryanair from Rome to Venice?

I am wondering if it is worth flying from Rome to Venice on Ryanair? A one way flight is 39 Euros. Has anyone done it?

No, however, I would fly Easyjet(easyjet.com) mainly because I avoid Ryanair when I can, and Easyjet flies out of FCO.

Easyjet also flies into Venice's Marco Polo airport while Ryanair flies into an airport about an hour away.

Why not just take the train. Just under four hours from city to city. Better scenery. No security hassles. Will take less time.

The train goes through Tuscany, Florence, Bologna and then into Venice. No changes.

The plane goes through clouds.

I would generally say no. Keep in mind that your total cost will be more than that, including the cost to get to Treviso, added booking, check-in, and possibly baggage fees at Ryan-air, then the cost to get into Rome from the airport.

I am taking that route next month and I opted to purchase a ticket on EasyJet. Despite the "base" airfares being inexpensive, you have to consider the number and weight of the bags you check in. That 15 or 19 Euro base ticket price quickly adds up. As an example, my ticket ended up being 77.49 Euro (about the same as the Eurostar train ride) because I opted for two checked bags and 3 kg extra weight. From what I keep reading, it's best to purchase added weight or purchase extra checked bags because these prices are much more steep at the airport versus online. I would have taken the train, but the flight into Venice arrives at 8:30 am which gives me just about that whole day to discover Venice. In contrast, if I took the train I would be arriving in Venice around 11 or 12 noon.

I flew with Ryan Air from Ireland to Flo and my ticket was 1 cent !! but my bags added up. Ryanair does have a lot of hidden charges. I did not have a bad experience with them.

I personally do not consider the Fees of Ryanair as hidden, they clearly note them, and they repeatedly warn you about baggage limits. It is just that you have to consider all costs in order to make a comparison.

BEWARE: Ryanair flies between Roma Ciampino (CIA) and Treviso Airport. Easyjet and Alitalia fly between Roma Fiumicino (FCO) and Venice Airport. Ryanair's fares are very low, BUT the checked luggage fees, administrative fees, etc quickly add up.

The AV train (3 hrs., 48 mins.) is just as fast and sometimes even faster than flying. With the "meno 30" advabce purchase promotional fare, it costs 51 euros. The "regular" fare is 73 Euros.

The super cheap option is the direct IC train (6 hrs., 13 mins.): 30 Euros if purchased at least 15 days in advance (meno 30 promotional fare).

Ciampino is not bad to get to. Treviso is a bit of a pain.

Flight will take just as long, and cost just as much once you add everything in.

There's the 771(I think)"Marco Polo" night train out of Venice. We did that last summer, and it was really nice and well priced.

I'm with Frank II and GAC. Take the train. Even if you fly Fiumicino-Marco Polo on easyJet, getting from city center to city center will be faster going by train (if you travel on a EuroStar Alta Velocita train, that is). Sit back and relax, enjoy the view, and reduce your carbon footprint.

Unfortunately, the Trenitalia site does not accept US credit cards so you can't book the advance purchase discount fares online listed by GAC. (Your credit card will work in the ticket machines at Italian stations.)

The standard 2nd class fare for a Rome-Venice IC train is 42.50 euro. As GAC said, the standard 2nd class fare on a EuroStar Alta Velocita train is 73 euro.
