I know many glasses frames are made in Italy. Has anyone actually bough frames in Italy? If so, can you recommend a good poace? Thanks.
Is this for prescription eye glasses and if so what kind of lenses?
Actually most frames are made in Asia, Luxxotica owns 150 brands at the moment. It's unlikely any are actually made in Italy even if they have "Italian" names.
I have, more than once.
This is the chain store I purchased them from last. Enter the name of the city (with the Italian spelling) and see where they are located in the city of your choice. They are all over.

I usually buy frames, then I have prescription lenses installed in the US. My wife had the lenses prepared and installed by the store I linked. But you need the prescription, or they can examine your eyesight.
In Florence I also know this store, which is owned by a former school friend and neighbor since we were kids. He's an optician so he can also examine your eyesight in the store. If you need lenses made it takes a few days, so you need to be in the area maybe 3 days or more.
Thank you. I do intend to buy the frames and have the lenses made backin the US.
Fyi, if you use Costco Optical, they will not use frames purchased anywhere else. Private opticians most likely will allow you to provide your own frames, as long as you aren't using any type of insurance. This is just my experience. Have fun shopping!

I just had my favorite Ray Ban frames [model 6335] upgraded with new lenses at Costco - for the second or third time - for regular vision, not sunglasses. They charge a $25 fee to refill outside frames - no extra charge to refill frames bought there.
What Costco explained to me is that the specification for the frame must exist in their system - so they won't provide lenses for every outside frame.

I had my local Costco store use my frames from elsewhere.. They carefully inspected them to be sure they were in good condition before committing to using them. They were a 20 yr old ( barely ever used) item..
Joe and Mark, thx for the Costco info. I have had them refuse several frames that I had purchased elsewhere, and actually tell me they won't accept outside frames at all. However, I will ask about the specifications when I pick up my new glasses next week at Costco.
Thanks so much!
Thanks again. I better do more inquiries at my Costco.
I was in Bellagio in August and my sister bought frames from a shop on the waterfront. The eye doctor himself assisted us. It was a really nice experience. I was the one who wanted to buy frames, but couldn't find a pair in this shop that worked for me.
