Anyone been to Southern Italy - Abruzzo

Going to Italy in June - first four days will be in Montenero di Bisaccia in Southern Italy.
Any suggestions on sites to see in that area.

Thanks,
Linda

I have not specifically been there, but we drove up from Puglia last spring to Pescara. We wish we had had time for the Gargano National Park. You might enjoy that drive, some walks. The beaches of Abruzzo are supposed to be quite nice, too.

No, but it is on my list. My family was from Rocca Pia and from Montenero in Abruzzo. Please share your experiences when you do go, including traveling. I had a hard time finding easy travel to the area of L'Aquila because of an earthquake the region experienced a few years ago. However, I do believe bussing is still an option as are rental cars. Southern Italy is night and day from Rome and all locations up north. Just to forewarn :) some people hate it. I loved south Italy, myself.

I went to L'Aquila two years ago, there were only a couple of hotels open. I'm going back this year, the city took my heart. I also love Rieti, which has connections by train to L'Aquila. These places (geographically) are more central than southern, though. I'm looking forward to adding places in Abruzzo this year.
