One day of our trip we will be driving straight from La Spieza to Ortisei in the Dolomites.
It is about a 5 our drive. Nothing planned for this day other than the drive and was looking at options to stop somewhere along the way for a couple of hours to break up the drive and likely have lunch. Roughly mid point would be nice.
One option I found that is appealing was Madonna Della Corona ; would add about 50 minutes driving as it is 25 min or so off route on backroads but otherwise not too far in distance off track.
Will also have a bit of a walk or bus ride once we park to get to the church built into a Cliffside but looks cool and seems to offer great views in the Lake Garda area. Have never been to Lake Garda and was not in the plans for this trip. Been to lake Como but only for 2 days on a previous trip.
Other thought was Verona, time wise it is even more on the route and more mid point as well; but not sure how close I can actually park in Verona to the city, avoiding ZTL's, would worry about luggage in the car in Verona and getting to and from the sites logistically.
Rough idea without much research into Verona would be to walk across the scenic bridge, see Juliet's balcony, think there is a roman arena there worth visiting? and ten jump back in the car? Too tiring?
Similarly never been to Verona, sure it is worthy of more than a couple of hour stop but had no plans to visit it on this trip.
Due to the pain of driving into Italian cities I was thinking Madonna Della Corona is a better stop than Verona but having been to neither one that is a tough call.
Maybe there is another stop not far off the route in Lake Garda area that would be better or elsewhere?
Or would you get the drive out of the way as fast as possible and check in without stops other than for roadside type gas and Autogrill lunch.
