Anyone been to Hotel Silla in Florence?

-- Anyone been to Hotel Silla in Florence and is it in a safe neighborhood? Also, is there easy access to the sights? As always, I am hoping to wake up to the sound of bells ringing. Any chance of that? Thanks, Ruth

We've stayed at the Hotel Silla and we like it. It's on the opposite side of the Arno from all the usual sights, which are in easy walking distance over one of the nearby bridges. The Ponte Vecchio is only about a 10-minute walk away. We had a car and we didn't have to enter any ZTL's to get to the hotel, and there was parking nearby. We never used the car while in Florence. It's nice and clean with good-sized rooms. There was nothing of concern about the neighborhood. Don't remember any bells.

Tom, thanks for your reply. How far is it from the hotel to the Duomo (I believe that is the dome by Bruneleschi) and the other museums. We won't have a car and it is our first time in Florence. I like staying on the outskirts a bit, but not too far from the main areas, in other words, I am fine with walking, but not too much walking. Also, what is a ZTL?
Thanks! Ruth

I'd estimate about 20 minutes walk from the Silla to the Duomo. The Silla is not on the outskirts of town; it's right on the opposite riverbank from historic Florence. The walk itself is very interesting, especially if you cross the river on the Ponte Vecchio. A ZTL is a zone of restricted auto traffic; if you won't have a car you don't have to worry about them.
