Anyone Been to Cervinara? Genealogy Quest

Hey Friends!

in about 2 weeks my GF and I will be flying into Naples than headed to Sorrento for 5 nights, and then Cetera on the Amalfi Coast for 5 nights.

We are thinking about trying to get to Cervinara one day, we know there isn't much there it seems but my GF is a Merola and her Great Grandparents are from there. We thought maybe we could learn a bit about where her ancestors came from beyond what we know in Ancestry.com.

So, the question. Train service here from Naples looks doable. I have no idea if we will find cemeteries or anything. Trying to decide if it's worth the trip!

Haven't been there, but I googled images and it has a couple of interesting places. It is near Benevento (Strega liqueur) and to Montesarchio, which has a hilltop religious shrine. I don't think it would be a wasted day (especially if you stop at the Strega factory).

Thanks @zoe appreciate that reply.

We found some facebook groups regarding that town to be quite helpful as well.
Trying to decide if we might rent a car from Sorrento to drive over for the day, or take the train to Naples then on to Cervinara. Alternatively, it is a little closer from our second location on the coast in Cetera.

Last minute considerations lol, we leave next week!

Hello , I was born in Cervinara, I live in Toronto I visit Cervinara quite often with my wife and kids, I hope you do make your trip to Cervinara, if you are going by train check schedule for the last train back , from Naples it's 50 mins. One your in Cervinara the train station is a short walk from the centre of town , the cemetery is not too far either, If you are looking to see where the Merola last names resided you should go to the area of "Ferrari" they have nice Piazza and also a beautiful church that's the most famous in town.. If you need any help or advice please don't hesitate to ask me,and also just ask people in town they are helpful. Happy travels

Update:

We're back, ended up renting a car for a few hours from Salerno and drove to Cervinara. Beautiful drive through the mountains, only about 30KM but took a bit over an hour. We explored the quiet little town a bit, had coffee and snacks. Most of the time we explored the cemetery which was stunning. Found some relatives of my GF, even a living one (a lawyer, though we didn't meet her). Was a great experience and I'm glad we went.
