We are in Sorrento for a few days. We have plans for Vesuvius and Herculaneum on Thursday. We do want to go to Capri but we've been very busy these last 8-9 days and not sure if we're up for a crowded scene. We would be going there to do the hiking. Can anyone who has been there the last few days tell us if the island has been busy?
Reach out to Elizabeth, the co-owner of Blue Star. She'll know what it's like.
It will be very busy later this week. I was there two years ago for the long holiday weekend (Naples, Salerno and Capri) with my friend from Naples - everything was packed on the 30th, 1st and 2nd.
I answered my own question today. Ferry was packed. Bus to Ana Capri was packed. Lost the crowds going up to Mt Solare on the chairlift and visiting Villa San Michele. That was enough for us. We got back on the bus to the Marina and took the first ferry we could back to Sorrento. We enjoyed what we did but certainly not a lot of bang for the buck. Never made it to Capri Town but I'm sure it was more of the same. And if I knew then what I know now... But it was an adventure.
Capri is great to visit with overnight stays but as a day trip it's not so great. Midday it's packed with day trippers but it's nice after they go home.
Yep it was packed.
