Our last stop on a 12 day cruise is Messina, and that is after 3 packed days in Rome at the beginning of our trip. So, are there any must see sights in Messina? Or maybe we should just go to the beach and relax.

hey!
what date are you reaching Messina..? there are a couple of interesting activities that take place in Messina like The Taormina Film Festival but that's in June. Otherwise you can also go to the Piazza del Duomo, the central cathedral square where free concerts devoted to rock, jazz, or classical music are presented.
Although if you really want to rest and relax at the beach after your twelve day vacation then do that, you wont miss out on much!

Take the train (40 minutes, every 1/2 hr.) or bus to Taormina, visit the town, then go back down and relax on one of the beaches.
Or check the tour schedules on your cruise line, and sign up for a trip up or around Mt Etna.
