Any suggestions on inexpensive places to stay in Sorrento?

Has anyone stayed at a centrally located B&B or inexpensive hotel in Sorrento? I'm going in July. Thanks in advance.

You say July. Sorrento accommodations prices generally go way up in August when the place is jammed with Europeans taking their long summer vacation--in July you should avoid most of this big price spike, although I'm not sure if the August price spike might start the end of July. AC will cost extra but many are glad they pay the extra in July. Rick defines Sorrento "lower priced" accommodations as those under €100 and lists at least 8 in his book Italy, for one of these check out www.casastarita.com

Jill,

You might have a look at Hotel Desiree in Sorrento. It's a "classic" RS Hotel (very comfortable but no frills) and the owners are fantastic! It's a short walk from the main part of town, but not really too strenuous. There's a fantastic rooftop terrace, a great place to relax and enjoy the sun (which I'm sure will be warm in July!).

Happy travels!

My wife and I stay in hostels where we can. We like them because of the convenience and low cost.

Take a look at those listed on this page:
www.hostels.com/it.so.

You will find a hostel far cheaper than a B&B.
Many of them now offer single rooms; or if you can take the noise try a dorm bunk.

Haven't stayed here yet, but plan to in May. Looks really nice, and has great reviews. It's a hostel, but you can get private rooms too for 85E/night.

Check out La Tonnarella. It is near Hotel Desiree (mentioned in this thread, too); it has a private beach (shared with the Desiree, in fact). It is a wonderful place! Amazing views, great rooms, fantastic restaurant.

Our family spent 4 nights in Sorrento in July of 2007 and stayed at Hotel Settimo Cielo (I guess it translates into 7th heaven) which is located out on Via Capo. We had a balcony with unbelievable views and a rooftop pool! I don't recall what we paid but we thought it wasn't bad for the time of the year and the amazing view. Breakfast was included in the price too. This place was in Rick's book in 2007 but don't know if it is now. I would stay here again! We were in Sorrento when Italy won the World Cup and it was an amazing time!!! Also enjoyed Positano and Capri. Absolutely beautiful!

In september 2007, we paid 140 euros per night for a room with a balcony and a view at the Setimmo Cielo.
(It's about 100yards closer to town then La Tonnarella). No matter were you stay, La Tonnarella has an excellent restaurant and a good vino del casa.

We stayed at the small hotel Mignon Meubles right in Sorrento. On the whole it was very nice and convenient to the town, just a few minutes walk from Piazza Tasso and just off the Corso. With breakfast for 2 in late Sept 08 it was about 90 euro. Also-free internet

Hotel Desiree in Sorrento, we were here this last July. We were able to walk to town, but took the bus back (bus runs till about 10PM). People at the hotel were GREAT! No TV or A/C, but they were not missed. Sorrento is nice, but we liked driving to Amalfi and Nerano best.
I think Id like to live there some day.

Casa Astarita is GREAT...BUT be certain not to accept the one unit above and adjacent to the bar next door, which features extremely loud music until 2 AM. Will sound like it's actually in your room. The other units have none of this. A very nice, casual, and centrally located place to stay!

Check out Hotel il Nido.It is not right in town but they have a frequent free shuttle to take you up and down the hill. The family is very nice and helpful. Our room was simple but very comfortable with a balcony with a spectacular view. Included an ample breakfast on a terrace. The price in in October 2005 was 90 euros for a triple. Also the food in their restaurant was wonderful.

Check out Ulisse Deluxe Hostel...is the FURTHEST thing from one! In fact, it's more like a 5-star hotel! It's a lovely place and the rooms are huge. I paid 70 Euros a night for a double room and it was more spacious than I ever anticipated. Location is good too; right off the main drag, Corso Italia, near the hospital. If I go back to Sorrento I would absolutely stay there again.

Hi Jill!

After much research for our trip in July - we just booked a really inexpensive B &B with lovely views called Villa Monica B&B - I found it on TA - and let me tell you - the glowing reviews sold me! (and the veiw!!)

It was a struggle to choose between Villa Monica and Il Nido (around the same $$), but I think that having the personal attention of the owner Pasquale will be super special.

All of the reviews on TA rave about him - and already I can tell he is going to be great.
He responded to our booking just to let us know to ring him when we arrive and he will pick up up from the station. and we have already chatted and made jokes.
He also does shuttle service for his guest, but you get the personal attention and a real Italian experience.

I think one of the rooms does not have an en-suite, so be sure to request a room w/ a bathroom!

Good luck! (I'm sure you are looking forward to your trip just as much as I am!
Cheers
Nel
