We will be spending 2 nights in Parma this April. Does anyone have any suggestions for things we should definitely see or do? Also, any hotel or restaurant suggestions?
Parma is famous for the giant ceiling frescoes of the Renaissance master Correggio. His earlier work is the dome of the church San Giovanni Evangelista, but the larger and more famous frescoes are in the Parma Cathedral (Duomo). Do not miss these!
Along with the Duomo, be sure to visit the baptistery, which is next to it. The baptistery, which dates from around 1200, is a jewel of Romanesque art and architecture.
The Palazzo della Pilotta houses the historic Farnese Theater. There's also the Ducal Park. And palaces and fortresses in the countryside, eg. Torrechiara.
