Any REC's for walking tours in Rome?

From the ones that Rick recommends, are there any that I should prefer?

We have used Walks of Italy in Rome, Florence and Pompeii, and have been very happy with our experiences with all five tours. In Rome we did the Pristine Sistine, which gets you into the Vatican before the crowds and the VIP Colosseum. They keep the groups to no more than 14 people, and everyone has headphones to hear the guide. Each guide has been very knowledgeable and interesting. They are well reviewed here and on Trip Advisor. They offer a 10% discount to Rick Steves readers. I think it's 10ricksteves.

Walks of Italy does a nice job. If you want something just-for-you, a private guide is a nice splurge. They can tap into your interests and energy level and devise something for you. For example, if you have been to Rome before, maybe you want to see some "second time around" sights. I recommend Sonia Tavoletta, [email protected].

Or you can self-guide with a book like "24 Great Walks in Rome."

We've patronized European Odyssey on three different trips to Rome. Friendly and knowledgeable guides and very reasonably priced as well.

If you are able to ride a bicycle, I highly HIGHLY recommend Top Bike tours in Rome. It is more "Tour" than it is "Bike." By that I mean that we cycled for only short distances before our guide stopped to tell us about the various sites. After taking their tour of central Rome, I felt much more knowledgeable about other sites I visited because of the information learned on this bike tour. Another plus: you will cover a lot more ground on a bike tour than you would in foot.

After my tour, I kept the bike for a couple of days so that I could cycle around the city. Rome is a surprisingly safe city for cyclists. As a lone female traveler, I felt 100% safe cycling day - and night - in Rome. This company has the best bikes I've ever seen in any European city.
