Will be in Assisi this year during Calendimaggio and one guide is "kind of " pressuring me into buying tickets. Are tickets really needed? Anyone been in Assisi for this festival? Super crowded I'm sure, but did you need tickets to see what was happening..or could you see enough and not spend $100+ for grandstand seats?
Have you tried posting in TripAdvisor Assisi forum as well? Just a thought.
Michael, I did check, and the posts are 4 years old, and all from the lady that is the "guide" that wants me to buy tickets from her. Based on her replies on Trip Advisor, I think we will check into buying tickets the day we arrive for the next day's events. We won't be in town for the grand finale, so I'm hoping there will be tickets available that aren't too expensive.
Was hoping someone who reads this board had first hand experience. I guess for the future that will be me...after this year!
I meant have you considered starting a new topic in the Assisi section of the TripAdvisor forums to give people a chance to respond. They get a lot more viewers than the RS forum.

I have been there!
and will be there again this year!
I have always bought the grandstand seats because it is such an amazing sight but I think I remember people just standing off on the side streets and you would see what was going on
The procession of people comes from each side of the Piazza Comune to meet in the center so you could pick a side and watch what was happening
It is so beautiful!
Enjoy!
We have also been there but did not buy tickets. In my opinion, unless you get there early, it is difficult to get the full measure of what is going on when watching from the side. If all you want to do is see the performers in costume, that is easy to do without a ticket. If you really want to see the show, I would suggest buying a ticket.
