Any nice coastal towns in Tuscany?

We finally decided to trim Cinque Terre from our itinerary in order to have a more relaxing time on the rest of our trip. We are going to spend 5 nights in Tuscany and I was wondering if any of the Tuscan coastal towns or even the coast itself are worth a day trip?

In another post I suggested that you stay in the proximity of Siena, which is well served by freeways that can get you to places faster than otherwise.

If you follow my recommendation, you are within 90 min drive from some of the best spots of the Tuscan Coast, all in the Province of Grosseto.

The Mt. Argentario Peninsula, in particular Porto Santo Stefano, would be my top choice. However it’s a little further down. Slightly closer are Talamone or Castiglion della Pescaia. Both are great choices.

Ditto Roberto. It all depends on what "kind of Tuscany" you wish to focus on, but as a sea lover, I found Orbetello wonderful and unique. It's between the mainland and the promontory Roberto mentioned, so it's a nice base from which to travel in either direction. Pitigliano is a dramatically situated town in the interior. Lots of cool Etruscan sites in this area.
To the north end of this region, the Massa Marittima area is nice.

Thanks Roberto and Val, for your suggestions. I will look at those places and see if they look interesting.

Those all look very much worth visiting. I will definitely spend a day down in that area. Thanks!

Camaiore is nice.
Orbetello with its laguna.
I prefer Porto Ercole to Porto Santo Stefano.
In Toscano, you have also the wonderful Tuscan Archipelago, of which Isle of Elba is the main isle of this archipelago, which you can accede with a ferry boat from Piombino near Livorno to Portoferraio
You can also rent a car in Portoferraio, should you want to tour Elba or visit other isles and islets such as Montecristo islet.

We enjoyed a couple of nights in San Vincenzo, right on the coast in April. We purchased a Kindle book called Tuscany by Car- the complete guide. One chapter Covers places to see, things to do, places to stay, and eating in the Merrema region of Tuscany (not covered by RS book). You can download PoI to your Garmin and or phone/iPad. Gives a lot of good info.
