I want to stay nearby these two areas. Find Como is very expensive for me and I am traveling with a buddy and it seems all rooms have double beds not twins. Having a hard time finding a "nice" clean place for $100 or less. Any suggestions?
Also, going to Lake Trasimeno area (not necessarily on lake) - any ideas where I could look, or you know of any good places? Any help will be very much appreciated!!!. Websites????

Hi Vivien, I can personally recommend Orange House B&B in Varenna on Lake Como. We stayed in the double-bedded room but the other room was twin bedded. Good breakfast, close to but not on the lake. Short walk to ferry dock. You can buy an all day ferry pass and visit Bellagio, Menaggio and Cadenabbia(sp?) I think the room rate was 70 Euro but has probably gone up since we were there. I have seen other posts on this forum also recommending this one. Hope that this helps. Ciao, Sherry

You will find that a lot (most?) hotel double beds in Italy are in fact two single beds pushed together. So if you like the look of a particular place it might be worth your while to check whether they would make the bed up as singles.

I can also recommend the Orange House in Varenna. We were there last September and paid 73 euros per night.

We stayed in Menaggio last Sept. at the Hotel Vapore. It's walking distance from the ferry stop, and was basic but very clean. No breakfast, but cafes nearby. They have twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms, and some have balconies with lake views. We had a great dinner in their restaurant one night. I would recommend it! I think we paid about E60 per room per night. Reviews of it are on TripAdvisor.
I liked Menaggio, as it was abit of a bigger town, so more to do.
