Any good hostels or budget hotels in Venice?

Venice is pricey, we will be there for 2 nights. Any hostel or budget hotel recommendations for Venice? Are their many there? We will be arriving late and leaving early so closer to the train station is ideal but not necessary if the price is right farther away. Thanks

I stayed at Hotel San Maurizio last spring and found them very nice. It not quite as well situated for catching an early train as the hotel mentioned above but I was happy with the value. (It was sort of expensive and certainly not fancy) Its a pretty good walk to the train station... about 45 minutes if I recall correctly as we had to catch a 520am train to Milan.

We stayed in the Domus Ciliota Monastery http://www.ciliota.it/ 1/2 way between the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge at the Academia Bridge water stop; it was great, clean, our own modern bathroom just around the corner from the Piazza Stefano with restaurants, Internet cafe etc.' ... email them at: [email protected]
Good luck,
Jean

You should include in your posting how much you're hoping to pay. That will help with responses.

i would very much reccomend albergo san samuele. very nice, has its own vaporetti stop, not the main boat though. cash only, single 60 euro, double 90 euro. www.albergosansamuele.it. have stayed there in 2008 and 2006. pretty cool area around the hotel, great restaurant right across the street. in 2004 i stayed at albergo marin. super close to the train station, just two blocks down from the bridge on the other side. single 85 euro, double 110 euro. good if you want to be that close. have fun be safe

Jordan,

You might also have a look at Albergo Doni. It's in a good location for easy walking to Piazza San Marco. The rooms are not luxurious, but very comfortable.

Happy travels!

We just returned from Italy and spent four nights at Pensione Guerrato. We negotiated our price based on paying cash which will save a little on the cost. It is located thirty seconds off the Rialto market stop, and if you walk thirty seconds the other direction you are in the middle of restaurants and shops. It was a perfect location. We had a 7 am flight out of Venice, and you can catch the night boat right at Rialto Market or a few minutes later at the Rialto stop, then catch the bus at Piazalle Roma stop for a short ride to the airport for 9 euro per person total.
