We spent 5 nights at La Calcina a few years ago and loved it. The location, in Dorsoduro, is very different from the other 2 places you mention, which are landlocked places near San Marco. La Calcina is right on the Giudecca canal and you can get a waterfront room. They have a rooftop terrace which you can reserve for an hour for private use. Lovely at sunset and very romantic. We also liked that the rooms are spare rather than ornate. Parquet floors, wrought iron bed frame, no heavy velvet or tapestry curtains. It was just our style

I stayed at La Calcina 2 years ago and loved it. . . ambience, location, excellent breakfast with a view, very clean, great staff, no elevators. I was looking at their website a month or so ago and it seemed to me that they had raised their prices by about 50% (I was there during Carnivale, so paid the highest rate - €90 for a single ensuite). I don't know if I'd go back at those prices, unless I found that the increase is pretty much throughout Venice.

Thank you! My friend personally recommended it but you're right, they're cheapest no canal view is currently at 250usd.. So I'm actually now taking it off my list:-( unless there's something really special about it?im copying my other post let me know if you've any thoughts:-) I don't know if I'm agonizing too much but I only have two days in Venice and I want to experience the best of it! I'm down to these b&bs, did my research and they're comparatively priced, great reviews (ranked in tripadvisor in this order), rooms have a more "old Venice" feel in ca Valeri, and casa Rezzonico (and only one with canal view but small). All seem to be a short walk from the vaporetto stop, all except Rezzonico are 5-10 away from st marks square, Rezzonico 20 mins walk. Does anyone have any recommendation on these places and can you tell me more about their neighborhood/surroundings and which one would be more romantic? We will be celebrating our 10th anniv. Thank you so much!!
