Any feedback about this itinerary to Italy?

Like many others, our planned May 2020 trip didn't happen. However, we are planning to go back to Italy and Munich in May 2023. I would appreciate any feedback about our Itinerary.

We have been to Italy twice, but I am sure some things have changed. My husband cannot walk for extended periods, but he enjoys beautiful views and good wine. We are taking our adult son with us for his first European trip, and I am so excited to show him some of the places that we have enjoyed in the past. We generally don't like big cities, but loved our time in Pienza, Monterosso, and Ortisei.

I would like to break up the long train trips with overnight stops in Lucca and possibly Verona. Any suggestions for hotels in these two locations?

Our Itinerary at this point is:
Rome - 3 nights
Pienza - 6 nights - to explore Tuscany
Lucca - 1 night - hubby wants to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa because he is a civil engineer; I would like to have a brief visit to
Lucca to break up the train travel.
Monterosso - 3 nights
Verona - 1 night
Ortisei - 4 nights (or 3 nights if we stop in Verona)
Munich - 2 nights
Munich Airport - 1 night for early flight home.

Any comments or suggestions about this itinerary?

Thanks in advance!

Kathy

I disagree with the 1 night stay comment. We had a couple even though others told us not too and we are absolutely glad that we did it. We saw things that we wanted to see and enjoyed it. Everyone travels different and have different expectations. If you won't be back to Italy for a while, I recommend seeing what you want to see, even if that means a one night stay.

I would take 1 night from Pienza and give it to Lucca
By the time you get to Pisa and visit the sites then get to Lucca the day is gone

Where do you plan to drop the car?
We drove from Pienza to Lucca in May and it took much longer than we expected, although it was a really nice drive

Thanks for all of the feedback! I understand the comments about the one night stays, but in this situation, I think it is the best solution for us. My husband is a civil engineer, and he really wants to view the leaning tower in Pisa. We aren't really interested in doing much else there and it breaks up a longer day on the train. I have back pain, and sitting long periods is difficult for me.

We are staying in an Agriturismo in Pienza that requires at least 6 nights, so we can't reduce our stay there. We have stayed there before and really like the town and really connected to the family that runs it. It will be like visiting family!

We will be renting a car in Terontola - Cortona from a small independent company that the family has recommended and we have used them before. We will be taking a train to Terontola-Cortona to rent the car and return it to the same location. We will continue to Pisa and other locations by train.

Again, thanks for the feedback!
