How are the skies in Italy now? Is there visible evidence of ash such as haze?

I've been in Italy (Umbria, Tuscany, Lazio) for the past week and haven't noticed any haze from volcanic ash.

Our friends just got back from Italy on the 11th. They had their flight from Rome to Venice canceled. I believe due to the ash.

I'm in Florence and have been since 5/8. All seems fine and no one even talks about the ash. I know airports in Amsterdam and London were closed on Monday, but everything in Italy seems fine.
