Hi all do you have a specific plug in converter you recommend? We have 2 teenagers who will need to charge multiple items. The options are overwhelming so wondering if you have a brand or certain one you like?
Also any item you consider a must have for long flights? We are in economy with overnight 11 hour flight our first leg SFO to Frankfurt. My teens have never flown this long (6 hours was longest) anything you all considered that’s a life saver for these long haul I am all ears. Thank you!
We have a couple of these multi usb wall chargers. They come with international adapters, and you can use them at home too. Multiple USB Wall Charger,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077VFGNYZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
For the flight, noise canceling earbuds/earphones really make a difference. I used regular earbuds on my last 6 hr flight and could hardly hear the movie I was listening to because the plane was so loud. Made for a very long flight reading subtitles. Also, I always recommend downloading some movies directly to your phone before flying. Just in case. You never know when the planes entertainment system might be down, or you get stuck in an airport longer than expected. Airport WiFi can be sketchy.
Bring snacks and a refillable water (empty before security, then fill it after security).
Get up and take stroll through the cabin every few hours. Just standing for bit helps fatigue. Bring along a charged backup battery for your phone. If you bring along reading material, consider it sacrificial. That book you read on the flight? Do you really want to lug it around the remainder of your trip? If you have difficulty sleeping, just short naps where you tune out everything else can be helpful as well.
Best of luck!
I have a small pack I take onboard for flights. It includes:
-Phone (loaded wth videos, audiobooks, and games)
-Kindle ereader (for reading)
-Charger (for long flights phones and ear buds usually need charging)
-Charging cable compatible with phone
-Backup charger (in case in-seat plug isnt working)
-Bose Noise Canceling ear buds
-Phone stand (so I can put the phone on the tray table and not have to hold it all the time) (Mine is made by Nite Ize and weighs 1/3 oz.)
I don' t travel with a computer or tablet any longer but if they are traveing with those item they may be used instead of a phone for videos and games.
All of these items are used during the trip as well. I just put them in a smal pouch for flights so they are easily available.
By the way, A converter changes electricity. Most modern electronics convert electricity automatically. What you do need is an adapter for the European plugs.
Here's a short explanation of plug adapters:

This is the adapter I use, works great! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X3WWGP7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
On my trip to Switzerland, I brought a bunch of magazines and a crossword puzzle book, but didn’t end up using any of them. It was an overnight flight and they turn down the lights so it was too dark to read. And I didn’t want to turn on my little seat light, because most everyone was sleeping or trying to sleep and I didn’t want the light to bother anyone.
I ended up just sitting with my eyes closed trying to get some rest or watching the video screen. Swiss Air had some good movie choices and an option to follow the path of the plan to see where we were and how much time we had left to go. Admittingly, watch the plane’s progress probably made the time go by slower, but it was something to do. And when we flew over Ireland, my sister and I both thought, we should go there next time, it’s closer. 😊
Also, several bathroom breaks just to get up and stretch. I didn’t see anyone just strolling though the cabin. I’m not sure they really want people doing that. Try to stretch in the seat. If you google “stretches to do on an airplane” you’ll get some good idea.
This was my first trip to Europe and I found the flight over there to go a lot faster than the flight home. I don’t like to fly and I ended up doing pretty well with the long flights.
These suggestions all look great…..what we have found in our travels is that most European hotel rooms have too few plugs…..and we have way too many things to charge up each night to prepare us for the next day as we take pictures, send text and email messages, etc…….also I have this to use on trips to protect me in case I need it as I use a public USB charger at an airport…..have not used it yet but have it:
…..anyone have any experience with it? Thanks…….
…..a good stash of downloaded movies seems to help the most! I try to binge watch anything i have missed so I can be busy watching for hours……..
A neck pillow. I haven't found the perfect one, but the worst thing you can do is let that teenage excitement keep you from trying to get some sleep.
Oh I absolutely get up on the plane and try to stay up for a little bit. I go around the bathrooms or somewhere and do a few stretches. Just 5 or so minutes at a time, but frequently enough.
I also take snacks (like nuts and cheese) and water so I can have that and 1) not be tied to the airline's serving schedule and more importantly 2) don't have to eat that awful airline food. I swear I have a psychological thing against stuffing my gullet with those ready-made meals, all cooped up with a stranger two millimeters away doing the same thing.
I also take a second pair of socks in case my feet get cold.
