Any bank holidays in the last half of Oct first half of Nov I should know about ?

Don’t want to be stuck somewhere when most things are closed without us knowing. Any days we need to look out for ?

My answer on your similar question in Ireland shows you where to find that answer in any country Rick Steves deals with.

That way you can get your answer without waiting...

Most things close only on December 25 and January 1, for a tourist doing touristy things the effects of other holidays are minimal. Many museums close on May 1, August 15 and Easter Sunday, but more and more make special openings every year.

Far from the seaside and the tourists' trail, August 15 is like Xmas day; no Italian with a good job and a long term contract would dream of working on August 15, even with overtime salary. Luckily those jobs are quickly disappearing and in remaining cases there is always an immigrant happy to make some money.

We were in Florence on All Saints Day weekend last year, which we were told was a long holiday weekend for Italians. It also coincided with the first Sunday of the month so museums were free. The crowds were unbelievable (probably similar to the summer crowds). We ended up taking a day tour to Sienna and Pisa that Sunday and it was so nice to get away from the crowds and enjoy the countryside. The Monday after was so much better - crowds were gone and we were able to visit so many more sites without waiting in long lines!
