Hello, I am going to be in Italy for 3 weeks in May. I am looking to do some research on importing goods for my shop that are vintage/bespoke/antique from Italy. Anyone have any markets/shops they recommend? Not looking to pay typical retail, or where a tourist might shop. Any ideas are appreciated.
Lucca had a great market where we saw many antique furniture vendors. I assume you are planning on filling a shipping container (as a friend who used to import stuff from the UK and France for B&Bs in Napa and Sonoma used to do)?
Curious as to your experience with import requirements and customs. Our friend stopped importing more than 20 years ago as the market here for old world furniture crashed in the early 2000’s and it became impossible for her to turn a profit.
I doubt if you re going to find anything less than retail without good connections. But Ascoli Piceno holds a monthly antiques fair that is famous throughout italy and beyond. Ascoli is a wonderful, beautiful town within an hour or so by bus from Rome..maybe a bit more but easy to check. We spent about three nights there a few years ago and would love to return.
Can't remember how much furniture there was, but Rome has a large market of second hand/antiques/flea market goods, the Porta Portese market on Sundays. Probably better for small items.
Shipping will be outrageous.
You need to investigate the cost of a TEU.
