Our Vatican Day plan (tickets already purchased) -- Scavi tour at 9:15 and remaining in St. Peter's afterwards, say until around 12:00 or 12:30. Vatican Museums tour (official tour) at 2:00. Of course, we meet our tour group inside the Museums.
I know it's a bit of a hike from St. Peter's to the Museums (and I'm factoring in that time into the equation), so I'm thinking that (for better or worse) the cafeteria inside the Museums may be our best bet for a quickish lunch. So, my question is whether we will be able to enter the Museums early using our tour passes so we can go to the cafeteria before meeting our tour group inside. (Or, would we only be granted entry a few minutes before the tour is scheduled to begin?) Anyone have experience with this?
(I do not think we will have time to go elsewhere for lunch, so Plan B is to pack a few snacks discreetly. Given that this will be a long, busy day, I'm hoping to do a little better than that--say, a salad or panini--for lunch.)
