Another question....trains

Sorry, here I go again...but...I was just poking around the trenitalia site checking out train times between the cities I'll be visiting to get a rough idea of things, etc. I plugged in my first leg which is Venice to Florence. It came back showing only ONE train and it's 3am. I juggled my dates a bit and still the same response. Is it really possible that there can only be ONE train going between 2 major cities and in the middle of the night? Am I doing something wrong? Help!

Also, I plugged in my next leg - Florence to La Spezia - and no matter which La Spezia station chosen, it shows no results at all.

Shari...there are about a dozen trains between the two cities, so there must be a problem with the time. Did you insert your favourite travel time (in 24 hour format) before clicking on "Send?" Perhaps the default time already listed in the "time of travel" area was late at night.

I thought I entered the time correctly but maybe I didn't. And what you've said regarding the amount of trains is what I've been hearing as well.

Thanks again!

The other problem might be that you're searching on dates that are too far in the future. Figure out the days of the week that you want to travel on, then pick the same days one month from now. That worked for me.

Trenitalia web site seems to be unable to look further into the future than about 1 month. I was also looking at Venice to Florence trains and couldn't get it to give me any times or fares. I went to another site and got a fare quote of 93 euros for a family of 4. There has also been a thread about pros and cons of taking the train vs. renting a car to go from Venice to Florence.

Shari, your having this difficulty because you are looking too far out on the calendar. Trenitalia changes their schedules a few times a year so if you want examples of train schedules, you need to keep the dates within 90 days. When the schedules are updated, they won't change much.

There are easily 12-15 trains a day leaving Venice for Florence. CLICK HERE to see some in the morning. Note that many require train changes at Mestre or Padova. Look for the few that have no train changes.

For Florence to La Spezia, type in Florence Centrale for the destination. Several runs will come up.
