another question regarding staying in Sorrento

I previously had rented an air bnb in downtown Sorrento but we had to cancel my trip due to medical reasons. Is it better to stay right in the downtown or in the cliffs with a view? We plan on taking a full day tour of the Amalfi Coast and then Capri for a day as well. I was just wondering what the views were for the best places to stay.

I love downtown Sorrento but I prefer to stay with an incredible view. I travel very far to be there and want to see the view from where I’m staying.

I guess it can depend on how much time you intend to spend in the room? We stayed at a really nice hotel in Sorrento just a block from the Piazza Tasso that didn't have a sea view but had a lovely garden with a pool and outside bar. We didn't miss not having the view very much as we were out all day had an eyeful of it plenty of other places.

I and many others have recommended Il Nido which is in the hills above Sorrento. One of the best views of the bay and across to Naples. We stayed there for 3 nights and ate at the restaurant out on the balcony. Could not have been beat IMHO.
They also have a shuttle that will pick you up at the train station and they take you down to Sorrento and will pick you up. Just a suggestion.

Like Kathy, we stayed near Piazza Tasso, middle of town. Yeah, you have to walk about 200 feet to have a view of the bay, but at least 15 great, reasonably-priced restaurants are within walking distance with no steps, which is key. You stay down by the marina, sure, you have a view, but you have to expend a bunch of energy to get back into town to shop or eat.

Sorrento is laid out perfectly to daytrip to Naples, Capri, Pompei, Ercolano, Positano, then come back late afternoon to nap, then have a easy walk to a wonderful dinner, which is what we did each of 5 nights there.

Lots of great hotels w amazing views that are not at the marina. We’ve stayed at Hotel La Tonnarella, on the cliff, a very easy 5-10 min walk, no steps, from downtown.
