This time it was a wild fire in the pine grove next to the runways. Apparently arson. Most departures were canceled.
Update: Today 7/30 FCO experienced a power black out. No A/C, no monitor displays.
Rome is falling apart.

I'm glad my arrival/departure is MXP ...
Where is FCO?
Rome's main airport. FiumiCinO
Marco, Thanks. I don't use initialisms and very rarely remember them.
FCO is now fully operational according to a news report: http://www.euronews.com/2015/07/29/flights-from-rome-airport-suspended-due-to-brush-fire-nearby-fiumicino/
Monte, all airports have a 3-letter designator, very common usage.
Monte, furthermore, NYC allows you to search JFK, EWR, LGA all at the same time. This is not some trendy high-school Text Message slang. It's the airline business since World War II. Welcome to 2015.
Your boarding pass will show the 3-letter designation specific to the airport. Fiumicino is also a town.
Monte, it's the Italy Forum, so FCO is in Italy. Another fire - well, the only recent major one was in Rome. Two big clues.
Your sleuthing powers are waning . . .
what is "1K"?
1 K means 1,000. 20 K would be 20,000 Same with 20 grand or 20,000 Usually...always (?) refers to $
"JiminVA - I'm glad my arrival/departure is MXP ... "
How are you getting from VA to MXP and back? Airport(s)? Airline(s)? Thanks!
Denny,
I think Nigel was being a bit facetious. I'm sure he knows what "1K" refers to.
It's a bit upsetting to hear that the suspected cause was arson. We've had a number of "human caused" fires (intentional or careless) here in the last few months that have caused a lot of damage. Unfortunately, not likely that the culprits will ever be apprehended.
George,
Reagan National to JFK to Milan returning in reverse order - American Airlines both ways
And if you see "ACK" on a car decal in the U.S., it does not mean the driver's had a frustrating day. ;)
I wondered as much, but someone kindly explained to me what UI meant recently so I thought I would return a favor just in case. I still get 2 karma points.
My, oh, my!
I feel bad for all those travelers whose flights were canceled...
