Another Coronavirus problem

I am scheduled to fly into Venice on March 16 and lead a casual tour of a group of some of my friends from Venice to Florence, Vernazza and then Rome. This trip was booked through Tripmasters which I have used many times. I have no problem with taking this trip but my concern is whether I will be allowed to take the train from Venice to Florence or if the Italian authorities are not letting any travel come out of the Veneto. I am not getting any up to date information on any of the sites I am checking. Does anyone have the answer to this?
So far it appears that flights are still going in and out of Venice so I would have to re book my flight if I choose to fly into somewhere else and fly home from Rome. I purchased travel insurance but it does not cover trip cancellation in the event of an epidemic.
Suggestions anyone?

Sadly I’m in sorta the same situation- my dream Italy trip is now a complicated mess! My flight is suppose to arrive in Venice on March 14th- but was just reading that British Airways are canceling those flight and telling customers- I haven’t heard anything. Getting through to customer service is a joke right now! Anyway I think the Italian government is in a scramble with how to handle this! Hope you, me and fellow travelers get some help!

At the moment there are no limits on train travels, except in few little towns in Veneto (Vo') and Lombardy (Codogno). You can travel in and out Veneto whenever you want, like in any other Italian Region.

Jackie, just to be clear - I don't think this is all flights. I heard they were cancelling flights to Northern Italy in March due to lower demand, but I've seen nothing that says all flights.

I cut and pasted the article from an Italian news agency. That’s what was reported on their site. Things have changed since this morning and I’ve edited the post. Thanks

Phyllis, as suggested by BA, be sure to have your contact info entered into "Manage my booking" so that they can contact you versus the other way around. At this point, they're likely dealing with customers whose flights are much sooner than yours, and it's very possible that they don't have final flight plans for 3/14 yet. They're not specifically saying that they're cancelling ALL flights to Northern Italy/Venice at this time - key word here is "some" - and reportedly will be using smaller craft on select Italian routes to accommodate a drop in passenger numbers. Yours may be one of those so hang in there!

They may also need to see where things are at in another week or so; fluid situation, ya know?

No train cancellations. no transport bans.
The only quarantine is a few small towns (1000-2000 population each) that nobody has heard of south of Milan.

Trying to block transport in and out of a region or big city requires thousands of personnel, which unlike China, European countries do not have. Too many roads and rail lines.
Equally border closures in Western Europe are unenforceable where borders go through urban areas.

That said, things are changing from day to day. 16th March is in current conditions unpredictably far in the future.

By the way, going to Vernazza in early March is not likely to impress your friends. Empty, no ferry, limited services, no greenery. Why don't you visit historic Lucca instead?
