Ancona

I am planning to take a ferry from Ancona to Split, Croatia, and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to kill a few hours in Ancona. I am taking a train from Florence to Ancona on the same day as the ferry, but the ferry does not leave until the evening, so I may have as many as 5 hours in Ancona. What is Ancona like? Does anyone have any sightseeing or restaurant recommendations within the vicinity of the port?

I checked in my Le Marche guidebook for you, and this is what I found. It appears that the historic sights are concentrated in the area near the harbor. There are Roman ruins, an archaeological museum, several Renaissance and Baroque palazzi, a number of noteworthy churches, a cathedral, an a diocesan museum. I would check with the TI office to get a map and for more information. The same guidebook recommends these restaurants near the port: Al Rosso Agontano, Moretta, Osteria Teatro Strabacco, and Traiano.
