That is very interesting, thanks. The amount of maintenance necessary seems staggering. Hopefully some of the new visiting fees can be used to fund additonal jobs for the maintenance workers who keep the city going--that would be good for them, and good for everyone who loves Venice. Italy really needs to work on those acqua alta gates though.
