An afternoon in Trieste or travel directly to Ljubljana ?

Hi, all,
You have been very helpful with the transportation aspect of our day in April, when we are traveling from Aviano AFB area to Ljubljana, [without a car] . We are still debating: do we go directly to Ljubljana , VERY early in the morning, and have more time there [we have three nights booked], or do we travel to Trieste, spend half a day, and then on to Ljubljana in the evening? As RS does not seem to address Trieste in the guide books that I have, am I to assume that the time is best spent in Ljubljana ?
I really appreciate all of the insight I have received from such experienced and thoughtful travelers!

I figure it is omitted as it is "Italy Off The Beaten Path". I would think it is worth the half day adventure there.

Just because it’s not covered in the book doesn’t mean it’s not worth a visit. Bologna, Parma, Ferrara, Torino, the Piedmont aren’t covered but they are all wonderful places to visit. Last October I began a 3 week Italian vacation (my 10th) in Trieste and was happy I did. Visit the Piazza Unità d’Italia and enjoy the sea view and an Aperol spritz. Spend an hour or so wandering through the Museo Revoltella to see how the “other half” lived. If you want great seafood, dine at the Hostoria Malcanton on Via Malcanton. The seafood risotto was outstanding. There’s also a small, well preserved Roman amphitheater that’s worth a quick look.

A few years ago I stayed a few days in Trieste, after it having been on my list for a long time. It was no disappointment!
Have lunch or an early dinner with one of the al fresco restaurants along the Canal Grande.

Ok, you all have convinced us to spend time in Trieste . We will each only have a carry-on roller bag. I believe there are storage lockers in the bus station, which I think is adjacent to the train station. I this correct? Is there luggage storage in the train station?
You all are a great help!

I would recommend Trieste and then spend time in Piran, from Piran you do a quick trip to Ljubljana. Ljubljana is small so 1/2 is good enough to see the main sights. Also, check out Lipica Stud Farms, you might be able to see one of the shows.
Hope this helps
