Amica discount on Trains

What is the Amica discount, and what is the criteria to receive the 20% off. Needing to get a train from Rome to Naples after I arrive in the AM at FCO. Want info on getting the Amica discount. Thanks!

Limited number of seats on the high speed trains available till the day prior to travel. Anyone can get it if available. Not available on regional trains.

Frank is correct. The limited discount is based on day, train and class of train. They often are gone early but posters report that they sometimes get the Amica ticket. When you buy your ticket, ask for the Amica fare. You might get lucky.

Yes, Jeff, you have it right. Small correction to Frank's post: Amica fares are available for IC trains.

Jeff,

If I read this correctly, you're arriving in the AM and THEN catching a train later that day to Naples. Thus, you will not be able to purchase an AMICA class fare for "same-day" usage. The AMICA tickets, if available, must be purchased by midnight the day before you travel. Larry has a great post re: using your VISA card online with Trenitalia... That might work for you if you need to buy in advance! I've had NO OTHER luck (consistently) using a CC and I live here!

Ciao,
Ron

Thanks for the replys. Yes, arriving at FCO
in the AM and needing to purchase a ticket for Rome to Naples. So Amica discount tickets ( if still availble ) can only be purchased as late as 12 midnight, the day before travel...???

I guess that won't work for me, as we arrive FCO the same day we go to Naples ( ie Sorrento )

Jeff, keep in mind that fares are very reasonable on the Italian trains so the discount is not as important as countries. I know, I know, 20 % is 20% and it adds up over time but it is a deal breaker.
