I am retired US Air Force and just found out about the American Cemetery located but a few miles from the city.
I will be in Florence next month and now my number one priority will be to visit and pay my respects.
Looking for any updated bus information on getting there and returning.

You have to go to the Busitalia bus station in front of the train station (next to Bar Deanna).
Make sure you take the right bus. That’s the one that stops at Tavarnuzze and Terme di Firenze. Your stop in in between the two, right after the Scopeti stop. Ask the driver for CIMITERO DEGLI AMERICANI.
My wife visited this cemetery with the last couple student tours she lead. It is a beautiful, thought provoking site and one which every American touring Florence should consider visiting.
