What is the easiest and less hassle way to go from Amalfi to Palermo. I have previously booked a high speed ferry from Amalfi to Salerno then train or bus to Naples airport to fly to Palermo. But i wonder if this is an efficient way cost-wise and time spent to go to Palermo.
If you want old school, have a little time to spare and want some good cheap entertainment, take the Trenitalia train from Salerno station all the way to Palermo. We did it in April (only to Taormina) but it was about 3+ hours to the end of Calabria at Villa San Giovanni, the train car goes onto a ferry, for the 30 minutes across the Strait of Messina. Once across the car goes back onto a track to proceed. Fascinating, I believe the last train/ferry left in Europe. Bought 4 months in advance, from Salerno/Taormina first class was 38 Euro. It does take almost 8 hours in total to Palermo--probably not much more in cost--but what a value price-wise.
We hired a driver from Positano to Naples (80 Euro each, group of 5), with a great 4 hour stop in the afternoon in Pompeii. Driver cost included time we spent in Pompeii. Then, flew easyJet Naples to Palermo.......quick and easy. If you want the best pizza in Italy, visit L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Naples......amazing and well worth the time before you head to Naples airport. https://www.damichele.net/sede-di-napoli/
Oh a train/ferry? That sounds exciting! Thank you. I will check that out.
