Amalfi - Ravello SITA bus schedule, is it trusted?

plan to visit Ravello from amalfi on a Wednesday, 6th of June later in the afternoon around 4-5pm by SITA bus. If i check their schedule, it should be around 15-30minutes interval between buses but i read many reviews about the untimely schedules. So in reality during my hour of visit would I expect only 1 bus pass per hour? what about the crowd queueing for the bus from Amalfi to Ravello during that hour?

Also I think I read there's another bus going from Amalfi to Ravello but not sure if this is a private sightseeing bus since it's mentioned to be a smaller bus? but with more trustworthy timetable. Anyone knows about this bus?

I'm also concern when going back later at night, would there be circumstance the bus won't show up at all since the schedule is only even once per hour for the night.

I recently took the SITA bus from Amalfi to Ravello. Unfortunately, I did not find the schedule reliable. Even a few weeks ago, Amalfi was extremely crowded and the group of tourists waiting for the SITA bus was huge. When the bus finally arrived, it quickly became over packed with passengers, with many people standing in the aisle. Personally, if I had it to do again, I would opt for a taxi or possibly the hop-on hop off bus that was available. Having said all this, Ravello was beautiful and I'm sure you will enjoy your visit there. Buon viaggio!

Jen, you can 'trust' that they'll do their best. Reliable?! Uh, not so much. I think their timetables are merely guides, unlike set schedules in countries like Germany & Switzerland.

So...you have to allow for that. Yes, last bus of the day is cause for concern because for any number of reasons it may never come. And in high season, traffic is an added problem.

But we've taken the SITA bus numerous times--in March--from Salerno to Amalfi and back, and from Sorrento to Positano and back, and really enjoyed it. But we had time to spare, and it was off-season.

thanks All for your input.

How long is the deviation time from the schedule? 30-45mnts? I check the schedule , for daily operating buses there could be buses in between 15minutes. Would the crowd dissipate later in the afternoon and/or evening? How much is the fare for the SITA bus Amalfi - Ravello?

I check the hop on and off, the schedule they offer is pretty short only up to 5pm but they'd come in handy if i see a long queue for SITA bus.

Hi Jay, I agree Germany and Switzerland have the better system. But I do enjoy the small villages in Italy and French despite their lack of system and sometimes safety (I got robbed in South of France, in one of the small village near French Riviera. All luggages are gone) but that doesn't deter me from travelling to such places only I apply more cautious now. I skip Naples because of this reason too and be aware of all warning from other reviewers.

If you’re headed up to Ravello late in the afternoon, you’re kind of going against the flow. That’s probably good news. Most traffic at that hour is coming from Ravello, and headed around the coast back to Sorrento. If you’re staying in Amalfi, I wouldn’t worry too much about getting back. You may opt for a taxi later in the evening (it’s not far.)

The bad news is the bus schedule will absolutely be a crap shoot. You’ll just have to be patient. They’re trying, and some days/times will be better than others but the traffic is a massive battle for them. Don’t get too discouraged if you see a huge queue, the buses carry a lot of people and there may be a couple along right behind each other.

Last mid-October when we visited Amalfi town for the day from Sorrento there was a HUGE cruise ship docked so it was a mob scene to get on the sita bus to Ravello. Schedule? What schedule? We had the entire day and had been here several times on previous trips so just took it in stride. Have been in Amalfi t. in the summer months when there is not a cruise shipped docked and it was great. We enjoyed Atrani too which is a quick walk through a tunnel from Amalfi. Have a great trip!

thanks All for the input. so pretty much just ignore the schedule and just wait for the bus.

I also thought the crowd to Ravello later in the afternoon might subside and replaced by the crowd going back to Amalfi. OR is it better to catch the earlier 9am bus the next morning?

We just spent the first week of May in Ravello which is a wonderful place to stay. Needless to say we got to know the bus well! They do attempt to heed the schedule but it can be zoo like. The first time up was midday and the crowd was huge and we had our bags so we found another couple and shared a taxi. They do attempt to add extra busses if the crowd is quite large - but surprise surprise there is no organised queue! We generally took early evening busses which were fine.

And there of course the stairs! A good path goes from Amalfi to Pontone and then to Ravello so the height gain is spread out.
