Amalfi/Positano or Capri

We are traveling to the Sorrentine Peninsula and have just one day on which to schedule a boat tour. We are undecided whether to do the day trip to Amalfi and Positano or the day trip to Capri. Any suggestions?

Month of year? Wave height is a factor, as well as weather. Any walking limitations? Have you considered using a ferry for another daytrip?

We did this trip in October 0f 22. Amalfi is the center for all transfers on the coast, ferries and buses. The first week of October felt like summer, crowds were incredible in Amalfi and Positano. We spent two nights on Capri because I consider the top of Capri one of the most beautiful places in the world. I have visited Capri twice and HIGHLY recommend arriving early and grabbing the bus or taxi and head straight up to Anacapri. This way you avoid much of the crowds. My first visit (2008) we felt like we were the only people in Anacapri, not so on our second visit but still much better than Capri town. Grab the chair lift up to the top and savor the view. We hike down, not difficult, and visited Church of San Michele.
On our last day we did walk thru the Piazza Umberto in Capri town, to access a hike(paved walk way) up to Villa Jovis and Lysis, can hike between the 2.
The Piazza was PACKED!

Tough question! Either is a fine choice. Time of year is definitely a factor, but in a vacuum I think I’m going Capri. In part, because Capri is always a day trip in a way. If you return to the area, that’s a box ticked off vs the coast towns which are more of an open-ended sightseeing experience.
