After naples, sorrento, and pompaei my wife and I have two days and nights left for the amalfi coast. I'm thinking two nights in positano, one of those days for r&r in positano, how should we spend the second day to experience the area? Ravello, amalfi town, capri, or something else...

Staying in Positano is an excellent choice. Any of your choices are good. A day boat trip to Capri from Positano is what I would do.

Chris, I really loved the island of Ischia; less of the tourist hoards than Capri and the bonus of spending nearly the entire day at Negombo (thermal pools, etc) was wonderful. I welcome any questions about Negombo. Unfortunately, I so enjoyed being at the thermal pool resort that I didn't get a chance to explore the island more. Next trip south of Rome will include a 2 day trip to wonderful Ischia. Happy travels, Linda
