Amalfi- Oct too late?

Hi-
our son will be in Lucerne, Switzerland for the fall sememster and we are looking for a place to meet up in early/mid October.
Would you suggest the Amalfi coast or is the weather iffy at this time of year?
Any suggestions? We have about 5-6 days and are open to anything.
thx!

It won;t be beach weather, but it won't be beach weather anywhere in October. We went in December one year and in November another enjoyed the peace and quiet. It's still technically "season" in October and pretty much everything is open. I also like Venice and the Cinque Terre in October. Of course Rome is fabulous in any season. :-)

October is still a nice time to be on the Amalfi Coast. November is the raining month but in October you should be fine. Plenty to do for a few days. Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Capri and Pompeii. Sorrento could be your day base and you could travel out from there. Once it did get windy in October and the boat to Capri didn't sail. But last October I had no problems with the weather but of course you can never predict the weather.

We have done the Amalfi coast in October and the weather was fine if cool. Neat thing was that the buses' that go along the coast to Amalfi are not as crowded. We took the bus up to Ravanna, and hiked back down to Amalfi and caught the bus back to Sorrento, where I would recommend you stay.
I'd have to look it up, but we had almost a suite at a convent about a 10 minute walk from downtown Sorrento but was on the main street. There will be some closed shops, and, depending on when you go in October, the boats may not be operating, except to Capri.

Other than the Amalfi coast, suggest you look at Palermo and Western Sicily or Alghero in Sardinia, either of which will be beautiful and easy to get to using Easyjet once you're in the EU.

I hope its good at that time of year, because I'll be in Sorrento for 4 nights mid October!

I was in Amalfi the second week of October in 2012. We had two rainy days but the rest was lovely. Unfortunately one of the rainy days was when we hiked from Atrani to Ravello and it was a unrelenting downpour which made for one harrowing climb :)

I think Sorrento would be a lovely place to meet. I know weather can always be iffy but my husband and I were in Sorrento last October arriving on the 23rd. We spent 6 nights here before heading to Rome and the weather was beautiful with no rain at all. Boats were running to Capri, Positano & Amalfi town, etc. We had thought about going to the island of Ischia but boat service was very limited in Oct. so skipped it. This was our 3rd visit to Sorrento with the others being in July. We had a wonderful time even though I expected it not to be so crowded that time of year. Enjoy Sorrento and how fun to meet up with your son!

We did the Amalfi coast during the second week of October 2 years ago. We used Sorrento for our home base. From here you can do day trips to Pompeii, Paestum, Capri, etc. The weather was perfect and the crowds were gone!
