Just starting the planning for September, 2011. One week in the Amalfi area, probably based in Amalfi. Favorite hotel/restaurants? We need room for three so if you've done that I'd love your suggestions/room #.

Cindi, Have you definitely decided to "base" in Amalfi, or perhaps one of the other towns in that area? I haven't stayed in Amalfi yet, so can't offer any first hand comments. You might have a look at the Italy Guidebook as it has a few listings for Hotels in Amalfi. One Hotel that I'd consider is the Hotel Amalfi (they indicate that a third bed will add 10% to the cost, if I read that correctly). I find that Hotel staff usually have good recommendations for local restaurants. Happy travels!

I stayed in Amalfi on my honeymoon (back in 1996) and loved the town and the Hotel Luna Convento! It's a converted monastery and was very romantic. I think it's on the expensive side; I'm not sure, back then the travel agent put the package together. It's right across the street from the Saracen Tower that you see in Amalfi photo's. Actually the tower is home to the hotels summer restaurant.

Da Gemma in Amalfi and Trattoria Cumpa' Cosimo in Ravello. Incidentally, be sure to spend a day in Ravello - - two villas with beautiful gardens, a lovely, small cathedral, and a serene, less touristy atmosphere are among its charms.
