Amalfi Honeymoon Trip Advice?

My fiance and I are planning to spend 12 days in September 2012 for our honeymoon. We've already spent time in Cinque Terra, Rome, and Florence, so we'd like to spend our time in Amalfi. Is that too much time to spend in the region? Are there any specific towns and/or hotels that people recommend?

It's all gorgeous, but my wife and I thought Hotel Villa Franca in Positano was absolutely terrific. It sits right on the top of Positano's western hill. The terrace view on the town and Mediterranean was a jaw-dropper. It's a 4-star boutique hotel with spa, rooftop pool. They gave us an upgrade to a Superior Double at 200 euro (off-season rates). Breakfast was great too - "Would you like eggs this morning? How may we cook them for you?" Check out the pictures on Trip Advisor. Figuring in Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri, Pompeii, Paestum, Ravello, etc., 12 days might still be a bit long. How about 8 and finish up with 4 in Rome? Is there ever enough Rome?

Molly -
12 days might be a bit much, but there is a lot to see in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. My wife and I stayed at the Palazzo Sasso in Ravello and had the time of our lives. Be sure to visit Pompeii, Capri, Positano, Amalfi.

You could start your honeymoon in Sorrento, check out Maison La Minervetta - very romantic http://www.laminervetta.com/index_ing.htm Use your time in Sorrento to visit the archaeological sites/Naples. Then spend 2 or 3 nights on the islands of Capri or Ischia. You can also visit both islands on day trips from Sorrento. Finish up somewhere on the Amalfi Coast for some R&R and leisurely visits to the other towns along the Coast. The time will whizz by!

If you do decide that it's a bit too much time and you're flying into Rome anyway, Orvieto is a quick train ride away. It's a nice size hilltown with lots of ambiance. We flew on Lufthansa from Naples. I would recommend hotels with pools. In Positano there was a noticeable fuel slick on the water and my husband got a very bad jellyfish sting. A highlight of our trip to Capri was when we went to the pier and a Caprese man offered a boat with driver but it was over our budget. We ended up with his nephew in a smaller boat that circled the island and went into smaller grottoes for about three hours. We would jump overboard and swim and then enjoy the views. It was still a splurge even with our teen daughters but we all had an unforgettable time.
